Week 13 fantasy football rankings

Below are Week 13 fantasy football rankings based on potential performance in this week's games for quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, kicker and team defense.

Quarterback
1 Tony Romo, Dallas vs. Philadelphia ...No team allows more fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and Romo is on fire
2 Andrew Luck, Indianapolis vs. Washington

6 Drew Brees, New Orleans at Pittsburgh
7 Tom Brady, New England at Green Bay

11 Andre Ellington, Arizona at Atlanta ...Over the last three games Ellington averages just 1.9 yards per carry, although this is a tempting match-up as Atlanta allows the most fantasy points to opposing running backs
12 Tre Mason, St. Louis vs. Oakland ...All in on Mason this week, great cheaper FanDuel #2 running back
13 Marshawn Lynch, Seattle at San Francisco
14 Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati at Tampa Bay ...Bernard made his return last week, although he averaged just 2.6 yards per attempt but should find it easier sledding this week

Week 13 fantasy football moves to make now

The BYE weeks have come and gone, and Thanksgiving week is here. Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope you are giving thanks to some good fantasy times amongst the obviously more important things in life. If you snagged Latavius Murray (Oakland) and C.J. Anderson (Denver) who were featured in last week's article you likely are coming off a strong week, and if you followed my FanDuel recommendations last week you likely crushed it: Demaryius Thomas, Josh Gordon, Odell Beckham Jr. and Isaiah Crowell all paid off handsomely. Let's keep it coming, just five weeks remain in the regular season – and likely only one or two more weeks before most leagues start their fantasy playoffs.

C.J. Anderson (Denver) is likely long gone, but if not add him of course. Anderson has been the number one running back over the last three weeks. As well as he has played, it is hard to imagine Denver turning back to Montee Ball or Ronnie Hillman, plus those guys probably won't even be back anytime soon.

I featured Latavius Murray (Oakland) last week and he is likely the top waiver claim after an incredible 126-yard performance with 2 rushing touchdowns...on four carries. Unfortunately, a concussion ended his night or who knows what he may have done. Murray will likely be questionable for Week 13.

Dan Herron (Indianapolis) looks as though he will fill the role of injured Ahmad Bradshaw, while Trent Richardson will continue in his role. Herron out-touched Richardson 17 to 13 this week, and he certainly was far more effective. Richardson posted another game at around 3.2 yards per carry, while Herron averaged 5.4 yards per carry. Any part of the Colts' offense is worth adding and arguably Herron has more value than Richardson going forward. Speaking of the Colts, someone may have cut rookie receiver Donte Moncrief and if so, scoop him up. Moncrief is a particularly important handcuff if you have T.Y. Hilton.

Lost in the shuffle of the epic rookie receiver class has been the play of Jarvis Landry (Miami). Over his last three games, Landry has 19 receptions and three touchdowns. Landry led the team with 11 targets last week and while he hasn't had huge yardage games (he averges 45 yards per game since Week 2), Landry has been highly consistent. Landy has at least three receptions in every game since Week 2 and he averages 4.9 receptions per game over that time frame. He's turning into a solid number three receiver in point-per-reception formats.

Stedman Bailey (St. Louis) has been virtually non-existent through the first 11 games of the year, but he may have earned a bump in playing time after this week. Bailey was targeted nine times (after 10 targets in Weeks 1-11) and he converted seven of those into receptions for 89 yards and his first NFL receiving TD. Look for Bailey to continue to line up opposite Kenny Britt.

Charles Johnson (Minnesota) was a favorite target of Teddy Bridgewater again in week 12, seeing 11 passes thrown his way. Johnson was only able to convert three, but his volume may make him a serviceable addition going forward. Johnson also scored his first NFL touchdown this week. Coming out of Grand Valley State, Johnson wasn't invited to last year's NFL Combine, but he has plenty of raw talent. At the Grand Valley State Pro Day last year, Johnson ran a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash and also posted a 39.5" vertical and 11'1" broad jump all of which are elite.

After struggling with injuries and inconsistency the first half of 2014, tight end Eric Ebron (Detroit) seems to finally be gaining the trust of Matthew Stafford. Ebron has four or more targets in each of his last five games played. Ebron is still a clear fantasy backup but he has upside with his raw skill set (Ebron was selected with the 10th pick in this year's NFL Draft).

The St. Louis Rams Defense likely have been long-since dropped in your league. They are heating up. They have 21 sacks over the last five games and notched a defensive touchdown last week. The Rams' defense are second in the NFL in sacks over the last five weeks. They have some favorable match-ups coming up and in the fantasy playoffs to make note of.

Other fantasy notes
Golden Tate (Detroit) has notched his first-ever 1,000-yard season of his NFL career here with five weeks still to go. NFL 2014: there are six receivers over 1,000 yards receiving but just one running back (DeMarco Murray) with 1,000 yards rushing.

After 861 yards as a rookie, T.Y. Hilton (Indianapolis) has his first 1,000-yard season after his 5th game of 100+ yards this week - Hilton is averaging 98 yards per game and is on pace to finish 2014 with 1,575 receiving yards.

Andre Johnson (Houston) has one lonely touchdown this year.

Andre Ellington (Arizona) has really faded of late - over the last three games Ellington averages 1.9 yards per carry, with 89 rushing yards on 47 attempts (although he's good for 4-5 receptions pretty much every week).

What has gotten into Justin Forsett (Baltimore) and how in the world could Jacksonville have cut him this summer? Forsett (29 years of old) is having an inspirational season. Forsett is on pace for 1,619 yards from scrimmage and is currently 6th-best running back in PPR formats – he has more points than Jamaal Charles!

Want a good reason to never draft a defense early? The Seattle Defense were almost universally agreed upon to be in their own tier in this year's fantasy drafts. Somewhat surprisingly, they are just the 16th best fantasy defense on the season - on pace for just 23 sacks this year!

Week 12 fantasy football moves to make now

It's coming up on Week 12, also known as welcome to Josh Gordon reactivation week!  Gordon is likely long gone in your league and hopefully you have some shares. He's a legit must-start this week right out of the gate. Gordon was the second best fantasy receiver in the NFL last year despite missing two games and was easily the best receiver on a per game basis last year. Cleveland won't be passing as much as the insane levels they were at last year when they led the league, but Gordon is an elite fantasy option regardless.

For pickups this week, there has to be a full-blown case of Jonas Gray fever. Gray was the No. 1 fantasy player this week - regardless of position - after racking up 199 yards on 38 carries with four touchdowns (which set the Patriots' record for most touchdowns in a game ever). It was a bit out of nowhere (Gray averaged 44 yards per game the three games prior and he had never scored in the NFL) but it's hard not to bite here. Heading toward the playoffs, New England would be well-served to lean more on the run-game. It's also hard to trust the New England running back rotation although you have to think Gray will continue to be given a chance to contribute significantly. This weekend against Detroit is not the most attractive of draws, but you could imagine New England getting up on this one and leaning on Gray regardless.

I have mentioned Charles Sims (Tampa Bay) the last few weeks and will do so one last time. Sims shouldn't be on your waiver and if he is there then grab him. Sims is set to take over as Tampa's starting running back and he is a lock for three-plus receptions each week.

Latavius Murray (Oakland) is on the radar, and if you are in need of a running back then I would take a shot here. Murray only had 4 carries this week, but he turned them into 43 yards, and Murray also tacked on 3 receptions for 16 yards. His 23-yard run this week was actually the longest run by a Raider this season. For Oakland, why not give Murray a chance? They are 0-10 and let's see what Murray can do (we know what Darren McFadden can do – and that's not much, McFadden is averaging 3.5 yards per carry this year). Murray has nice athleticism and is built like a starting NFL running back. Murray wasn't invited to the Combine last year but he got on the NFL radar almost out of nowhere after a remarkable performance at the Central Florida Pro Day where Murray ran a 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash and put up elite metrics in all the athletic drills.

Montee Ball hope sure didn't last long. Returning from a groin injury this past week, Ball is already out again. I mentioned C.J. Anderson last week and he remains a must-own even more so now. Anderson has the backfield basically all to himself with Ball and Ronnie Hillman both injured. Over the last two weeks, Anderson is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and he's collected 12 receptions. Feel confident about starting Anderson for the next few weeks.

Also with Denver, Emmanuel Sanders left with a concussion while Julius Thomas suffered a sprained ankle. We'll need to monitor their status. It's possible both will be fine and ready to go this week. It's also possible they will be out. If that's the case, look for Andre Caldwell to get a chance to start, or it's possible that the Broncos will finally let rookie Cody Latimer get on the field. If Thomas is out, Jacob Tamme will be worth a look for a spot start.

In Jacksonville, standout rookie receiver Allen Robinson is out for the year which should mean more opportunities for both Cecil Shorts and Allen Hurns. Both should be added if you are looking for depth at receiver.

Brandin Cooks (New Orleans) may miss time up to a month with a broken thumb. Kenny Stills is going to be an attractive sleeper down the stretch and should see much more targets as a result. Stills was a favorite of mine coming into the season. No player had a higher yards per target average last season than Stills.

Dwayne Allen (Indianapolis) left Week 11 with an ankle sprain. His status for Week 12 remains TBD but regardless, Cody Fleener's performance this past week (7 receptions, 144-yards) was enough to draw interest for sure. Fleener had the best game of his NFL career and made some exceptional catches. Even with Allen around, Fleener is worth a start. For the season, Fleener is on pace for 702 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Also for Indianapolis, Ahmad Bradshaw has a broken ankle will likely shelf him for the season. Trent Richardson should be much busier, but Dan Herron is worth a look as well. Herron is arguably more explosive and he will have opportunity to get involved going forward in this 2-back offense. Any part of one of the league's best offenses is worth a look.

Josh McCown (Tampa Bay) again had a good showing this week, passing for 288 yards and 2 TDs (McCown has thrown 2 TDs in three of his four full games this season). Throwing to Mike Evans has its privileges. McCown makes for a nice sleeper play this week against Chicago and their 25th-ranked pass defense, and McCown gets bonus consideration as he has a unique opportunity to go up against his former team. Looking to the future, McCown may also be worth stashing for the fantasy playoffs as Tampa will play the Panthers in Week 15.

The Houston Texans turned to Ryan Mallett last week looking for a spark and he delivered to the tune of 211 yards and two TDs with just one INT and leading the team to a win. Mallett has good weapons in the receiving game and should produce respectable numbers, although he's more of a target for those in two starting quarterback leagues.

Week 11 Fantasy Football moves to make now

Arizona Cardinals fans, get ready for the Drew Stanton era. The Cardinals leave Week 10 with an 8-1 record, but quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a torn ACL - and on Friday the team had signed him to a 3-year, $50M extension, too. Stanton is a journeyman quarterback who has just 8 career touchdowns to 9 interceptions. Unless you are desperate, look elsewhere.

If he’s available, Carson Palmer owners will want to try to add Robert Griffin III (Washington). RG3 looked good throwing and running in his Week 9 return and coming off the BYE week at home against Tampa is about as good of a draw as you can hope for. The Buccaneers are the 27th-ranked fantasy defense against quarterbacks. Week 12 is a tough draw against San Francisco, but then RG3 gets 4 straight games against bottom-13 units.

I mentioned Michael Vick last week as a legit fantasy starter and Vick delivered as the 11th best quarterback this week. Vick remains out there in leagues and provides solid depth and maybe a spot start. In three games, Vick has stabilized the position for the Jets (he has three passing touchdowns and just one interception), and helped the team get their second win of the season over the Steelers this week. Quite frankly, I am not sure why Vick wasn't staring Week 1.

Ronnie Hillman will be out in Denver for multiple weeks it is reported. Montee Ball is the back to own in Denver, and he reportedly has lost nearly 15 lbs in an effort to be lighter and more quick on his feet (that worked wonders for another Big Ten back in Le'Veon Bell).  C.J. Anderson is also a must own, and who knows what the split will be or who will start. Anderson sure was impressive this past week after being called into action. He had 90 yards rushing on 13 attempts and added 73 yards receiving on four receptions, including a 2014 highlight-of-the-year type play on a 51-yard screen he took to the house.

Theo Riddick (Detroit) has started to eat into the touches of both Joique Bell and Reggie Bush, and has carved out a role in the Detroit offense. Riddick has a receiving TD in each of his last three games.

I mentioned Charles Sims (Tampa Bay) last week. He didn't do a ton in this game, but Sims did successfully make his NFL debut with 10 total touches, tying him with Bobby Rainey. Sims is the guy you want to gamble on in this offense for the rest of the season.

Is it time to finally feed the Crow? Isaiah Crowell (Cleveland) scored his 5th rushing touchdown on the season last week, but the problem is Ben Tate and Terrance West also scored. This is going to remain a true "3-headed monster" for now.

Carlos Hyde (San Francisco) looked quick on his feet and showed real burst this week. Hyde probably isn't on your waiver wire but if he is he should be owned. If Hyde ever became the starter he would easily have Top 10 upside and San Francisco very well may start to get him more involved down the stretch.

Marshawn Lynch is locked in as the starting running back in Seattle of course, but Christine Michael should get mixed in more. He is the best running back in the league not starting, likely by far. It was garbage time but Michael showed what he can do with an explosive 45-yard run this past week. Michael is a must own if you have Lynch.

Jarvis Landry (Miami) continues to be a fairly solid number three fantasy receiver. The rookie led the Dolphins this week with 10 targets and he had a season-best 7 receptions for 53 yards. Landry has had at least 3 receptions in every game since Week 2.

I mentioned Josh Gordon (Cleveland) a few weeks ago, but as a reminder Gordon is set to return in Week 12.

I also have mentioned tight end Kyle Rudolph (Minnesota). If you need help at tight end, or want to block someone else, make sure he isn't on the waiver wire. Rudolph should return this week and the Vikings could really use his services.

The change to Josh McCown at quarterback in Tampa Bay may be the best thing for tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. McCown utilized Martellus Bennett in Chicago last year, and Seferian-Jenkins is of similar stature. Seferian-Jenkins saw a season-high in targets in week 10 (nine) and found the end zone for the second time in three weeks. Seferian-Jenkins may be rounding into an every-week consideration at TE.

Other fantasy notes
Andy Dalton's QB rating this week was 2.0 on 10 of 33 passing - literally if Dalton threw all 33 passes into the stands or spiked it 33 straight times, his rating would have been 39.6! It was the worst game by a quarterback statistically since 1960. The New Orleans Defense will be worth a play this week.

The Cleveland Browns defense helped to limit Andy Dalton and the Bengals to just 3 points this week. They are a very attractive fantasy defense down the stretch, including this week as they get Ryan Mallett in his first pro start for the Texans at Cleveland.

Suffice to say Odell Beckham Jr. looks like the real deal: since making his NFL debut in Week 5, Beckham's full-season pace is 80 receptions, 1,184 yards and 10 TDs

Justin Forsett (Baltimore) added another 23.2 fantasy points this week and he is quietly the 7th best fantasy running back on the season.

Since Week 7 and over the last four weeks since being named the Jacksonville starting running back, Denard Robinson has 389 rushing yards (behind only DeMarco Murray and Mark Ingram).

Finally, what another legendary week of quarterback play this past week. Aaron Rodgers completely undressed the Chicago Bears defense for six touchdowns...in the first half. Send that footage straight to Canton. It was a clinic of amazing throws, one after another. In that game, Rodgers threw his 16th TD pass of 70+ yards, an NFL record (at age 30 and in his prime, Rodgers is going to demolish that somewhat arbitrary but impressive record by the time he's done). Meanwhile, Peyton Manning set yet another new NFL record, now with nine games of 5 or more passing TDs in his career. Russell Wilson rushed for his third 100-yard game of the season. Wilson is on pace to rush for 889 yards (Michael Vick owns the single-season rushing record by a quarterback at 1,039). Lastly, Michael Vick became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for 6,000 yards in their career on Sunday.
